With a good mix of sun and rain over the last week, things are growing great at the farm. The summer squash and zucchini plants are starting to flower, the peas are in full swing, and the corn is growing right up! If things keep up this way, we even hope to have early tomatoes this year! We have some early tomato varieties planted in the greenhouse and they look great, so we are keeping our fingers crossed for tomato salad in July. Those of you who were in the CSA last year might remember that we had late tomatoes since our first crop got trampled by errant sheep. So this would be a great change, and a perfect example of eating along with the ups and downs of the farm!
It feels like the first part of the summer is over with the departure this week of our wonderful apprentice/volunteers Anna and Kate. And with the woman who was supposed to arrive this week deciding not to show up at the last minute, we are now accepting new WWOOFers (Worldwide Workers On Organic Farms) for the next part of the summer. But with Sara (our awesome apprentice) staying with us for the full season and new people frequently emailing to see if we have an opening, we’re looking forward to the next part of the season!
Have a great week!
