As I sit and write this newsletter, I have the National Weather Service up on a corner of my screen. Who knows what tonight might bring, but it sounds like it’s going to be a mess! For those of you who pick up on Sunday mornings in Rockland, I’ll be there regardless. But if you’re not able to make it out, I’ll bring your share back to the farm walk-in, for whenever you are able to come get it this week. If that doesn’t work for you, please get in touch with me. We’ll figure out a way to get your veggies to you.
The crew worked so hard this week to get crops out of the ground and out of the greenhouse before the cold weekend weather arrived. We have a walk-in full of carrots, a root cellar full of rutabagas, and a guest room (the only room that is far enough away from the wood stove to stay cold all winter) full of garlic, shallots, onions, and winter squash! It’s quite a sight: the guest bed, surrounded by tarps on the floor and thousands of pounds of vegetables. Sometimes it seems like the barn has moved into the house…. Or is it that the house is an extension of the barn? Regardless, our winter guests have to clamber over mountains of food to get to bed. A non-traditional arrangement, for sure.
I’ll have bulk storage crops with me and available for purchase at every delivery this week, as well as at the farm: Onions 20lbs ($30), Shallots 5lbs ($23), Garlic 2.5lbs ($20), Carrots 20lbs($30), Winter Squash by arrangement ($2 each or 3 for $5).
If you were a summer CSA member and still haven’t filled out your summer survey, here’s another chance!
We hope you have a week full of wonderful fall meals. Enjoy!
