The final week of the summer CSA is upon us! It feels like perfect timing, what with the Common Ground Fair weekend and chilly nights reminding us that fall has arrived. It has been a great season in so many ways: a dedicated and hardworking crew, a successful first season of the micro-dairy, more varieties of crops than ever before, and a wonderful CSA community that holds not only this farm but also Nepali farmers on the other side of the world in its hands. And even the big challenge this year had a silver lining for vacationers and visitors to Maine: the lack of rain. Beautiful days and hot stretches of weather really impacted a number of crops, but others crops continued to thrive on a combination of irrigation, hard work, and crossed fingers.
A couple things to look for in your inbox over the next couple weeks:
- Please fill out the annual CSA member survey! The responses to this survey really impact our planning for next season, so please take a couple minutes to do it when the link arrives in your inbox.
- The annual CSA potluck, cider-pressing, garlic-popping gathering is tentatively set for Saturday afternoon, October 17th, depending on weather and other farming factors. We hope to see you all there!
If you are a honey CSA member remember that this is the second honey week! And for those of you who will not be continuing into the fall CSA, we will miss you and are so appreciative of the support you’ve shown for the farm. More than ever before, Hatchet Cove Farm is about its members. We love feeding you, we love introducing your children to farm animals and carrots growing in the ground, we love that our farm is your farm. Thank you for being here with us.
