Welcome to the 2018 Spring CSA!
I’m happy and tired after our first harvest day of the year. It was the first harvest day ever for apprentices Jed and Aleena and they did a great job starting to learn the harvest norms — how spinach is pinched off leaf by leaf but arugula is cut with a knife, and bok choy may look hearty but is actually as delicate as an egg. They learned that everything we do on harvest day is with an eye toward protecting the vegetables from dehydration and bruising, and they learned that the kiddie swimming pool in the wash shed isn’t for kiddies, but for mixing the salad greens before we bag them up. It was a long, beautiful day.

In each week’s newsletter you’ll see a list of the week’s veggies. The veggies listed first will be delivered at every pick-up that week, and the veggies listed between the brackets are those that may or may not be ready for harvest every day that week. Eventually, everyone will get everything! The weekly newsletter will also have the list of the week’s add-on shares, as well as links to some of our favorite recipes that incorporate that week’s veggies. There are also links to descriptions of the week’s Cheese and Oil & Vinegar shares.
.
You should have already received an email explaining the details of your specific pick-up day and time. If you have ANY questions please get in touch via email or text (712-7382) and I’ll get right back to you (you can call, too, but the cell phone reception at the farm is often terrible!).
.
Have a wonderful week, enjoy your HCF salads, and I can’t wait to see you all soon!
