CSA 2020 Week 16

I’m feeling pretty happy about this misty day and the rainy days to (hopefully) come! I know that for most of the crops it’s a bit too late, but for our soil and our sanity, it’s still mighty important! And it will hopefully let those final fall root crops plump up.

As we’ve tumbled headlong into the school year and fall harvest, not to mention peak campaign season (Bill is out knocking on doors five nights a week these days), we’re so glad that we’ve been able to continue to see and connect with so many of you at the pickups. We’re always happy to pack up shares, of course, but it makes life a bit easier when the walk-in at the farm isn’t a Tetris sort of situation of unclaimed shares! And it just makes us happy to see your masked faces. If you are picking up out of the walk-in, please remember to get your non-refrigerated items on the table outside of the walk-in (tomatoes and winter squash, this week). 

If you feel like you’re not sure what to do with another head of cabbage, my highly sophisticated ‘putting food by’ tip is the following: put the head in a plastic bag and push it to the back of your fridge! Come December when you rediscover it after a post-Thanksgiving fridge clean-out, it will be in near perfect condition, waiting for you to appreciate its crunch again. Or just do the ridiculously simple ‘Roasted Cabbage Rounds’ recipe below — my kids can devour a head of cabbage this way, straight off the pan before it even reaches the table.
