Our friends Emily and Leon Garnett run an organic farm in Jefferson, and during the weekend of August 23rd they will be harvesting their 100 broiler chickens.  They are selling them for the extremely reasonable rate of $3.00/lb, and if you are interested in local chicken to eat fresh or put in the freezer for the winter, you can pick them up at their farm at the end of the day on Saturday the 23rd or Sunday the 24th.  Call Emily at 549-5954 for more information! 

Also, we are including info this week from MOFGA (Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association).   They are offering for CSA members to join MOFGA for half price.  As MOFGA members you have free entry to the Common Ground Fair, receive their really good newspaper and other resources, and get to support an amazing organization.  MOFGA programs provided tremendous support to us as new farmers, and we think this is a great opportunity to join an important organization.

This week we have a great new volunteer, Carey, who came all the way from San Francisco to work with us for the next two weeks.  She helped transplant the final 350 cabbage seedlings today in pretty hot weather, so she’s getting a taste of things right off the bat.
