CSA Week 14

A short note from the farm this week, as we’re off in Boston for a wedding weekend. Pictures of Eli in his tuxedo will be available soon, for all those who asked to see them! Hanni, Laurie, Emma and Kelly have taken over responsibility for the farm for the weekend, for which we are so grateful. They are a very capable crew and we feel lucky to be able to entrust them with everything.

A couple of things coming up:

  • Sign-up is now underway for the 2010 Fall CSA! The final week of the eighteen-week summer CSA will start on October 10th. The four-week Fall CSA will begin October 17th and will be available at two locations: Sunday mornings in Rockland at the UU church and Monday evenings or Tuesdays at the farm in Warren. We’re sorry that we won’t be making home and workplace deliveries, but it’s part of how we start to simplify things for winter on the farm. Vegetables in the fall share will likely include salad mix, baby spinach, potatoes, onions, shallots, garlic, kale, chard, collards, carrots, beets, rutabaga, winter squash, cabbage… and more! The cost for the four-week Fall CSA is $65. The cheese share with Appleton Creamery will most likely also be available, for $48. Let us know if you want to sign up!
  • On Thursday, September 23, at 5:30 at The Strand Theatre in Rockland, Reba will be the speaker at the ‘Women’s Leadership Series’ put on by the Maine Women’s Fund. It’s free, all are invited, and I would love to see any familiar faces in the audience, as public speaking isn’t exactly in my comfort zone! In the case, shockingly, that I’m not enough of a lure for you, for those of you at the Rockland pick-up last Sunday, the woman filming there (Pam Maus) will be creating a short film that will be shown as part of the event.

There is no hard copy of the newsletter this week due to our unusual weekend away. Have a wonderful early fall week!

Week 14 vegetables: Salad Mix, Onions, Shallots, Potatoes, Carrots, Basil, Zucchini, Tomatoes (either big or cherry), Green Beans or Eggplant (depending on your delivery day, you’ll receive either Beans or Eggplant this week and the other in next week’s share)

This week’s recipes: The recipe-finding part of my brain is also taking a break this weekend. Clicking on each veggie on our recipe page of the website, though, will bring you to all the recipes for that veggie. Thanks!
