Fall CSA Week Two

We’re pretty excited about the Brussels Sprouts this week. Pop the little bulbs off the stalk and store them in a plastic bag in the fridge if you don’t plan on eating them right away (discard the stalk, or use it for a sword fight if you must). Watermelon Radishes are a new experiment this year. They’re great keepers and are spicy, so use them for pickling or keep them in a bag in the fridge. They’ll last for weeks to come, and you can shred them into a winter slaw or salads for a little extra kick. We’re amazed that we still have tomatoes for you, and will promise to keep them coming as long as possible! Finally, for those of you who look forward to spaghetti squash all year long… here it is! We won’t give it more than once, but we know that a few of you really adore it, so enjoy!

Remember that the CSA potluck/cider-pressing/garlic-popping party is at the farm next Saturday, October 17th, starting at 1pm. We hope to see you all there.

Remember to make sure to only pick up the fall CSA add-on shares that you signed up for. We ran a little short of add-ons at the end of last week, and I bet that some folks just forgot that the Fall had started and picked up their summer add-on shares like usual.

Have a great week, be in touch with any questions, and eat well!

Farm Potluck, Cider Pressing & Garlic Day!
Saturday, October 17th
1pm  on at the farm (1133 Finntown Rd, Warren)

Starting at 1pm and running until the cider has been pressed, the delicious food has been eaten, the garlic bulbs have been popped apart, and the relaxing has been had. Bring your apples to press, a dish to share, a chair or blanket to sit on, nimble fingers to pop apart garlic bulbs, and a plate/cup/utensils to enjoy it all with.

This gathering is inevitably one of our favorite afternoons of the year, and we know CSA members who consider it an integral part of their fall tradition. Come join! If weather is inclement we will send out an email and post on Facebook with the raindate. Contact Reba at 712.7382 with any questions!
