Supporting our Community, Feeding our Neighbors

What a very full year on the farm: a new milk room, vegetable plantings that went entirely to our CSA members for the first time ever, and financial aid that helped more than forty families cover the cost of their CSA memberships. In fact, we were able to give out well over $5000 in financial aid to CSA members in 2015.

We live in a socio-economic atmosphere that makes it harder and harder for struggling families to eat healthily. Even for those receiving assistance, food stamp benefits have been slashed and loopholes used to kick families off of vital programs. We believe that healthy food should not be a luxury, and Hatchet Cove Farm is one of the few farms in the state that both accepts food stamps and offers a financial aid program for low-income families who don’t quality for state assistance. While we apply for grants to provide some of this aid, much of the financial aid comes directly from our CSA community. Our 250 CSA families and friends are connected not only by their commitment to local farms and to good food, but also by how they help care for their Mid-coast neighbors.

This holiday season, if you’re able, please consider donating to the HCF CSA Financial Aid Fund. Donations can be tax-deductible, thanks to the First Universalist Church in Rockland. Your donation will empower an ever-broadening segment of our Mid-coast community to access healthy, fresh, organic food through the Hatchet Cove Farm Community Supported Agriculture programs.

  • $25 covers more than a week of a vegetable CSA share.
  • $50 covers two weeks of vegetable and milk shares for a Mid-coast family.
  • $175 covers half the cost of a summer CSA share for a family who can pay the remainder in manageable installments.
  • $500 covers a 26-week spring, summer and fall vegetable CSA share.

Tax-deductible donations can be sent to:
UURockland (memo line: HCF CSA Fund).

Non-tax deductible donations (but so easy to make!) can be made via PayPal at this link (sign in to PayPal, it will bring you to ‘Send Money to Family and Friends,’ then enter the Hatchet Cove Farm email –info@hatchetcovefarm.com, enter your donation amount, and write ‘CSA Financial Aid’ in the comments).

May your winter months be restful and peaceful. As we sort through seed catalogs and plan for the first spring greens, know that we thank you, again and again, for being a part of this amazing farm community.
