CSA Week 17

This week we started to fully sink into fall, with pumpkin ice cream at Dorman’s and Cylindra beets (our new favorites, cylindrical and sweet) roasting in the oven. We have a full week ahead on the farm, with the components to a new greenhouse getting delivered on Monday (greenhouse raising party coming soon!), our MOFGA organic certification visit later this week, another trip to Aroostook for Bill’s legislative work, and the continued fall harvest.

We’re so happy to have the cool weather return of tender arugula and spinach. And this week’s carrots pulled out of the ground simply beautifully, with barely a mouse-nibbled one among the lot. A final planting of Salt and Pepper cucumbers is now producing, too, so we’ll have a few more of those to enjoy as long as we don’t get touched by frost any time soon.

If you’re a honey CSA member and you missed your jar last week, I’ll bring extras to each pickup this week. If you’re a milk CSA member, we’re sorry to say that the cows are drying up earlier than expected this year. We will still have some milk through the end of the CSA, but it is unlikely that every milk member will get it every week. If you would just as rather stop the milk share early, let us know and we can credit your account now for the remainder of the year. If you would like to take your chances, we’ll still try to get it to you weekly, and you can just let us know when you’ve missed a week and we will credit you.

Have a great week, and enjoy all the fall feelings and flavors!
