We’re very happy to announce that the 2014 CSA Signup is now underway! We’re dreaming of warm soil, green sprouts, and baskets full of fresh produce for our members. There’s a lot going on at the farm — seed orders, apprentice interviews, field clearing, not to mention that I even finished Eli’s Christmas sweater before June this year! We love the months of December and January, but now it’s time to start gearing up, and we hope that you’re as excited as we are to put some fresh veggies on your plate!
We’re planning on growing the same wide range of vegetables as ever. From tomatoes to cucumbers to spinach to groundcherries, we can’t wait to get the fields and the greenhouses growing again. As always we’ll be offering the same pick-up locations (Rockland, Pen Bay Hospital, and at the farm in Warren), members can pay in installments or by EBT, and we plan to utilize the free “extras/seconds” table more than ever. We loved all the positive feedback it received in the end-of-year survey last fall!
A few changes this year:
~ The CSA online signup is via a new program (called Member Assembler). It’s far more economical and straightforward than our old system, and we’re really pleased with it. The best thing about it is that we can now use Dwolla for members to make online payments. Dwolla is a secure online payment system (that is fairly priced – unlike credit cards) and is very similar to making an eCheck payment (which most of our members are already familiar with). Please give it a try! We’re really hoping that we can eliminate nearly all paper checks this year.
~ Based on the feedback from oil and vinegar members in 2013 the FIORE CSA will be structured a bit differently this year. Every week members will receive ONE larger bottle (200ml) of either oil OR vinegar — alternating two weeks oil to one week vinegar. We think this will continue to be a great pairing with our veggies.
~ Terra Optima Farm will no longer offer CSA shares, but the Terra Optima meat and eggs will continue to be available through the Terra Optima Farm Store in Rockland, so stop by there for your pork, beef, chicken and eggs! We may still pair up with another meat or egg farmer this season — let us know if that is an option that you were really looking forward to, and we’ll try to make it happen!
Please feel free to get in touch with any questions. We can’t wait to see you!
