CSA Week Five

The farm driveway feels like a bit of a minefield for drivers these days.  There’s the guinea hen who races up to her reflection in car bumpers.  The pet bunny gone feral who hangs out, grazing the lawn and lounging underneath parked cars.  And then, of course, our beloved dog Mica, who is a natural greeter and will run straight up to any car regardless of whether it’s still moving.  So that said, please drive carefully on our driveway, but please don’t slow to a halt!  You’ll never get out of here, otherwise.  All three creatures know how to get out of the way when necessary, and will do so.  We don’t want a car accident due to someone hitting the breaks for the crazy guinea hen, as much as we love her!

Basil is the new thing on the table this week!  You’ll be getting it in your share on a very regular basis for a good while to come, but enjoy this first taste of the youngest, most tender basil of the season!

The broccoli in this week’s share is the Gai Lan broccoli cross, and every part of it (the flowers, the stalk, the florets) are edible.  If the end of the stalk is a bit tough, just snip it off.  We really love this new addition to our fields this year.

If you still have a balance on your CSA share and haven’t made a payment for over a month, we ask that you please do so soon.  If you have any trouble with the online Dwolla system, an old-fashioned check will do.  And if you’re having trouble with the payments, just let us know.  We can come up with a new payment plan or see if we have financial aid still available to help you out.  Just keep us in the loop!

Within the next couple of weeks I’ll be sending out information about the annual organic low bush blueberry order from the Hinkleys at Red House Farm.  They are anticipating a bumper crop, and so we may not be as limited in quantities as in the past few years!  We can’t wait for their amazing berries.  Stay tuned.

We hope you have a great week and enjoy your veggies as much as we enjoy growing them for you!
