Summer CSA Week 15

We had a couple great surprises on the farm this week. First of all, the onion harvest. We had resigned ourselves to a smaller harvest than usual due to the lack of rain, but we ended up harvesting quite a few great big onions! Then we went on to have probably our biggest winter squash harvest on record. The crew has been harvesting it for a few days now, and they’re only half done. Butternut, Delicata, Kabocha (my favorite), Acorn and Spaghetti Squash! Most varieties need to cure off of the vine for a few weeks for their flavor and sweetness to really develop, but Spaghetti and Delicata are two varieties that you can eat soon after harvest. Enjoy!

There are still a few spots left in the fall CSA. There are also some additional funds available in the financial aid fund, so please let us know if you’re interested in the fall share but need a little extra support to make it happen. That’s what the fund is here for.

For all those of you who have been looking for a donkey (or two) to adopt (I know there are lots of you out there), this is your lucky week! CSA member Jan McCoy is looking to adopt out her beloved two donkeys—a mother and daughter duo.  For more information, call Jan at 372-8257.

Have a great week, enjoy your fall meals, and we hope that many of you get to make it to the Common Ground Fair next weekend.  We’ll be visiting as a family on Friday and can’t wait.

Be well,

Reba and the HCF crew
